April 2022: Let's Laugh.

Published: April 6, 2022

So we're now about 1 week into April, and it's still cold and raining again. BLAH! This time of year here in Garrett County is the ultimate tease—a warm sunny day will make you think that spring is finally here, but—guess what?—JUST KIDDING! We might get snow again this weekend.

So what are we to do? We can moan and grumble, be resentful, or laugh at the absurdity of it all. I feel like that about a lot of things right now. Beyond the trivial weather changes, the world is currently facing plenty of tragedy, and I have several loved ones fighting hard battles. It's absolutely understandable to want to feel sad and cry out in despair. But seeking out the silly, the goofy, the ridiculous, the absurd keeps me sane and reminds me that God has a sense of humor.

Perhaps that's why Mark and I are currently rewatching episodes of New Girl (a show that has arguably some of the most ridiculous characters ever written):

So, if you need a permission slip today, here you go: Do whatever you need to do to laugh today. Quote some Monty Python, grab some coffee with a friend and remember past antics, watch a stupid show. Laughing is good for the soul.

Monthly words to remember:

You laugh. I'm not saying I don't cry, but in-between I laugh and I realize how silly it is to take anything too seriously. Plus, I look forward to a good cry. It feels pretty good.
