There are always so many great things happening in the summertime here in western Maryland, but we wanted to highlight A few things that are near and dear to our hearts:

  2. Oakland's Little Yough Summer Music Festival is underway! Every Friday night, you can experience this summer concert series, which takes place at the Mountain Fresh Pavilion in the heart of the Oakland Arts & Entertainment District. This year marks the 25th Anniversary for the concert series that was started in 1996 by Ken Perrin as a showcase of area and regional singers, songwriters, and talent.
The family-friendly, free concerts are held at the Mountain Fresh Pavilion in the Oakland Town Parking Lot every Friday evening from July 8 to September 2, with the exception of Friday, August 5th, 2022. Food vendors will open at 6 p.m. and the performances begin at 7 p.m.  You can see the complete schedule here.
  3. Artist Studio Tour | Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24, 2022
The Garrett County Arts Council showcases our county artists’ working studios annually with our Artist Studio Tour. Residents and tourists are encouraged to travel the scenic byways of Garrett County to meet our local artists, learn about their creative inspiration, technical processes, and the tools and materials they use to make their unique handcrafted work.

  4. Our Town Theatre presents Quilters by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek

Ostensibly the story of a pioneer woman and her six daughters, Quilters blends a series of interrelated scenes into a rich mosaic which captures the sweep and beauty, the terror and joy, the harsh challenge and abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories contained in various patches or “blocks” with music, dance and drama, the action depicts the lot of women on the frontier: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death.

But, with this, there is also love, warmth, rich and lively humor and the moving spectacle of simple human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity. In the end, when the various patches are assembled into one glorious, brilliantly colorful quilt, the effect is both breathtaking and magical—and a theatrical masterstroke which will linger in the mind and memory long after the house lights have dimmed.

The musical opens July 27th, buy your tickets here!

Hope to see you around this summer!
